The reconfiguration of epistemic power relations within the learning processes of communicative democracy

By Alex Roy
English

Taking an interactionist approach, this paper examines the epistemic power relations within the “merging of knowledge” methodology of the international anti-poverty organization ATD Fourth World. This communicative methodology encourages a double learning process—the epistemic empowerment of poor people and the epistemic disempowerment of civil servants—toward collective empowerment.
