Shelter operations: A goal in migrants’ struggles in makeshift camps in Paris or a regulation process (2015–2023)

We study the struggles that have emerged through and from migrant makeshift camps in the Paris region. We place the question of these camps, their political dimension, and their regulation at the center of the analysis. These dynamics are part of a wider context of border struggles in which the presence of migrants in European states is subject to significant and structural control and repression. Camps create a balance of power by constituting spatial resistance to the dispersal and movement of individuals, two ways of managing mobility on a transnational and national scale (Tazzioli 2020). We examine the impact and scope of this struggle by migrants and their supporters through the prism of makeshift camps and shelter operations in the Paris region.
